Progressive Pathway
Ages 7 and above
Wild Country Kids

What it is
An eight-week, term-based lesson package introducing young people to safe, practical horsemanship through horse care, groundwork, riding and fun activities.
Who it's for
Children aged 7 and above, from complete beginners to more confident young riders. Every activity can be simplified, completed from the ground or adapted to suit the child and horse.
What we cover
- Approaching, catching and haltering a horse safely and calmly
- Reading equine body language — tension, relaxation and what a horse is telling you
- Grooming, picking up feet and preparing a horse for work
- Groundwork: leading with softness, personal space and clear boundaries
- Pressure and release — how timing and feel shape a horse's response
- Mounting with balance and building an independent seat
- Riding aids for walk, halt, turns and smooth transitions
- School figures and Western patterns — circles, serpentines and figure eights
- Ground poles, obstacles and problem-solving from the saddle
- Mounted games that test control, balance and teamwork
- Untacking, cooling out and caring for the horse after the ride
Individual progression
Activities increase in complexity with each student's skill, confidence and readiness. More experienced riders may progress to longer patterns, more advanced obstacles, independent riding and faster gaits where appropriate.
