Foundations — Adults

What it is
An eight-session introduction to understanding, handling and working with horses, completed over ten weeks. It's where your horsemanship begins — not where it ends.
Who it's for
Adults who have always wanted horses but never quite known where to start. People looking to reconnect with horsemanship after some time away. Individuals who never had the opportunity to learn to ride as a child.
What we cover
- Understanding equine behaviour and the horse's flight response
- Reading body language and signs of stress or discomfort
- Safely approaching, catching, haltering and leading
- Grooming, picking up feet and basic daily care
- Personal space, boundaries and safe positioning
- Pressure and release with clear timing and light cues
- Moving the horse forward, halting, backing and yielding
- Groundwork, obstacles and controlled desensitisation
- Basic horse health, welfare and ownership responsibilities
- Tack, fit and function
- Preparing, tacking up and mounting safely
- A balanced riding position and basic riding aids
- Riding circles, serpentines, transitions and Western patterns
